Having the second down day here in Haines. Carston Oliver went home a couple of days ago, and we’re waiting for Bryce Phillips to replace him. And we need a reset. There’s some good snow left, but it’s getting really hard to find it… The rest of the crew still in Haines – Oskar Enander, Stephan Drake and Ben Sturgulewski from Sweetgrass Productions – are not as tough today as yesterday (Ben’s looking good though), and I’m the only one without a hanover. Feels pretty good… I might as well stop write, and have you looking at the pictures instead. If you’re reading my blog at Freeride.se, you have to click the photos to read the captions.
- Our guide, Lukas. We’re extremely stoked to have him. Calm, awesome mountain awareness, AND sick shredder. So sick it’s kind of embarrassing for the rest of the crew…
- Goat Towers from the heli. Some gnar in there for sure.
- Stephan between two turns, on the way home on day one.
- We passed by Bruce Bauer at the Funny Farm, where we stayed last year. His house burned down, which is really sad. But it seems like he’s back on track now, and are stoked on the new house he’s building!
- Penthouse.
- Happy, but serious.
- Triple shot. We did that last year. If you look close you can se a heli with Gigi Rûf inside it flying over that run. I guess he slayed it.
- Some run we skied.
- On top of that run, looking at the other getting dropped of.
- “Slapp fotbollstumme”.
- Carston ready to drop in.
- Lukas after killing one more run. He gets to shred the best snow, in the shadow.
- Stephan might be one of smartest dudes I know. But sometimes it’s hard to take him serious…
- Ben taking his hangover pretty serious.
- Carston sending a big ass 3 in front of the cameras.
- Had a new pilot for a couple of days. Jag (if he spells it that way) came up from Juneau to give Al a break from flying. Jag’s neck is bigger than Carstons shoulders, and he’s a kick ass pilot.
- This is just after I bailed out on a toe-in a bit further down the ridge. Thought my landing was a bit sketchy, but then I saw Jag putting down Lukas and Carston here. Glad I had the mellow one…
- Carston dropping in on that line.
- Lukas shredding one more sweet run.
- This gives good perspective on how you sometimes scope from heli. It’s preeetty difficult to get a good sense of a run like this just by passing it a couple of times in the air…
- Time for another toe-in. We’re all missing Rob, of course. But we still feel he’s with us all the time. He’s watching over us, for sure.
- Flying around to find a spot where they could land (I didn’t do this run).
- Carston and Zack Giffin (who took Stephans seat for one day) hiking away to find the entrance to some on slope shredding.
- “How’s that entrance, Zack?”
- “Nothing special. Just the casual 50 degrees sunbaked then frozen shit snow.”
- i was gonna do a master piece out of this photo, but I didn’t get the camera up in time, so there’s more focus on stickers that Carston in the background. But some people are happy for that too! Thank you nice sponsors that are letting me do this ski thing.
- Thumbs up! Not a “slap fotbollstumme” (direct translation: “loose soccer thumb ), so I’m a bit disappointed. But that’s ok. I look like a diver. But that’s ok too.
- Just a random dude at the ferry terminal.
- Yeah. You never know when those terrorists decides to strike in Haines, right?
- Xavier asked for a French beer, and they gave him one half the size of mine!
- Our luxury “apartment”. It’s called Beach Road House. It’s close to a road, and it’s a house. The beach we haven’t really figured out yet. But the people who runs it are good folks!
- PB&J. I only eat this when I’m in the states. Not that healthy, but so good…
